They say you always remember where you were and what you were doing when you receive either really bad or really good news. Fortunately, this past Sunday it was the latter. I was up in north Texas helping a dear friend deal with some family business when I received the phone call from my author’s assistant (a.k.a. chief navigator) Janica Smith. I could hear her grinning as she shared the news. If you’ve heard all this already, please do me the favor of pretending to be surprised and excited one more time. And if you’ve not heard the news, here goes (cartwheels are optional):
My book The Intentional Networker: Attracting Powerful Relationships, Referrals & Results in Business won First Place in the Non-Fiction category of the 2012 IndieReader Discovery Awards (IRDAs). Winners were announced Sunday at the Book Expo America (BEA), North America’s largest book publishing industry event held annually in New York City. (I knew I had a shot at winning the Business category, but this was a much bigger enchilada!)
If you’ve never heard of the IRDA’s, they recognize excellence in independent publishing and are vetted by some of the top experts in the book publishing business, including publishers, retailers, agents, publicists, and reviewers from Barnes & Noble, Simon & Schuster, HarperCollins, Kirkus Reviews, the Huffington Post, and Greenleaf Publishing.
This is a dream come true: to be recognized by experts in the publishing industry as an award-winning author. And what a thrill to have my expectations exceeded yet again. Maybe it’s (yet another) sign that it’s time for me to fly higher and dream bigger.
Keep your fingers crossed with me as ForeWord Review announces it’s awards later this month. The Intentional Networker is a finalist for its Book of the Year competition. Winners will be announced at the American Library Association conference in Anaheim, California.
And if you missed my last blog…
As my way of celebrating all the new grads and recognizing that it’s prime conference (and summer reading) season, I’ve temporarily dropped the price of the Kindle version of The Intentional Networker to just $4.99. So as I said last time, skip the frou-frou coffee beverage for one day and use that cash to invest in a field guide that will make a difference not only in how you network, but in how you show up in business — and in life.
congrats patti!
Thank you, Todd!

Very cool Patti! Congrats….
Thank you, everyone!
Having attended the BookExpo, this is a huge deal. I’m ecstatic to hear that the judges recognized true quality in the sea of business titles. I hope the award yields even more attention for The Intentional Networker. Way to rock the Javitz!
Thank you, Hope!
Congratulations, Patti! I’m not surprised, and I’m thrilled for you!
Outstanding! Thanks for the info on the Kindle deal. I already have a hard copy of your book, but now I plan to get the Kindle version to have as a portable reference.
Thanks, Darline! Hope you are enjoying and finding value in it, both in print and digitally.
Congratulations Patti! What a wonderful confirmation that your intuition that intentional networking is something so many people are ready to learn about and experience was dead on. And, trusting your gut on design, layout, and content delivered you a well-deserved home run too!!
Thank you, Dianna. You’ve been an inspiration to me throughout this adventure.
That is truly fantastic news – and I feel like just the beginning.
Me too! Thanks, Adeline.

And I thank you, SueAnn! You are a big reader so that is high praise. And your blog is just wonderful. All about being smart, savvy, fun, wellr-read and just plain awesome.
I’m feeling a sequel….. and sending out the vibe for just that. We want more!
Congratulations! I agree is sequel is in order. After reading your book and following your blog, I am finding myself a more intentional networker. I used to think a networking event was a success if I “worked the room” and got lots of cards. Now I see how to make more quality connections. Can’t wait to see what the rest of 2012 has in store for you.
Thanks Janki!
That’s great news, Patti! Congratulations. What an honor. I’ve read the book, and the honor is well-deserved. I say “on to bigger, brighter and better” things.
Congratulations, Patti. This is great news for you and for independent publishers. I expect more good things will be coming your way because you have been so generous with others–a basic tenet of the Intentional Networker!
How wonderful for you Patti! Obviously, others share our view of your great book! Congratulations!!
Thank you for all these affirming comments!
There is no one more deserving of this than you, Patti D! Your heart and professionalism combined with your writing skills are touching lives all over the globe. Congratulations!
